I have always envied those around me who seem to always have perfect smiles without even trying, because I feel like I was born with "bad teeth." While my teeth are in great shape now, it is only because I take great care to visit the dentist every six months for a check-up and cleaning and maintain good oral hygiene habits at home. While I used to get a lot of cavities, even though I thought I was doing "everything right" to keep them away, I am proud to say that I have been cavity-free for a couple of years now! I put a lot of research into what daily habits can wreak havoc on my teeth, and I thought it would be a shame not to share what has helped me with others who need the advice. I plan to post many oral health tips on my new blog!
Dental implants are a great option to replace your teeth. They act just like regular teeth and can be made to look and feel just like your natural teeth. Many people are confused about why someone would choose to get dental implants. Here are 3 reasons that people would get dental implants.
1. Alternative To Dentures
One of the most common reasons that people get dental implants is as an alternative to dentures. If you are still pretty young, and yet your teeth are starting to deteriorate, you might be looking for options for replacement. Dentures are a good option, but they may not be the best long-term solution. Instead, you can get your teeth completely replaced with dental implants.
This means that the dentist will pull out all of the existing teeth and insert dental implants instead. These implants will be inserted directly into the bone, so that you have strong teeth that feel and act just like your normal teeth.
It is important to recognize that if you choose this option, it will take some time to heal. This is a major surgery, and if you are not prepared for it, it might be stressful to take a couple weeks or even months to fully let your mouth heal.
2. Chipped, Broken Or Decayed Tooth
If you have a chipped, broken or decayed tooth, you might be looking for a way to replace it. For instance, let's say you got in a bike accident and knock your mouth. If the root of a tooth was damaged, it will cause the tooth to decay and die. The tooth will need to be pulled, and you will simply have a gap in your mouth. A dental implant is a great way to replace the tooth so that it looks and feels just like normal. A dentist can replace just one tooth or many.
3. Cosmetic
Some people choose to get dental implants for cosmetic reasons. If you are not pleased with the size, color, or shape of your teeth, you can get dental implants inserted, and this will help you to get the exact look that you want. With dental implants, you can choose anything and then dentist can make it happen. If this is something that you want, talk to a dentist in your area about different options.
These are just 3 reasons that someone would choose to get dental implants.
