I have always envied those around me who seem to always have perfect smiles without even trying, because I feel like I was born with "bad teeth." While my teeth are in great shape now, it is only because I take great care to visit the dentist every six months for a check-up and cleaning and maintain good oral hygiene habits at home. While I used to get a lot of cavities, even though I thought I was doing "everything right" to keep them away, I am proud to say that I have been cavity-free for a couple of years now! I put a lot of research into what daily habits can wreak havoc on my teeth, and I thought it would be a shame not to share what has helped me with others who need the advice. I plan to post many oral health tips on my new blog!
Smiling isn't just a symbol that you're happy. Smiling can actually benefit you in a number of ways. Even if you are uncomfortable to show your teeth because they are crooked, there are methods to make your straighten your smile to help you look and feel your best. Here are just some of the reasons you should smile and smile often.
Longer Lifespan
It's believed that smiling can make you live longer. It's not necessarily the smile itself that is responsible for a longer life. Instead, it's the effect your mood has on your body. According to one study, happier people have a lower risk of dying than people who aren't happy.
The thought is that a happier mood has a more pleasant effect on your biological processes than a negative one. While smiling can keep you in a better mood, smiling alone isn't going to make you immortal. A longer life has more to do with taking care of yourself, but smiling definitely can't hurt.
Provide a Professional Boost
Smiling can also help you open more doors in your professional life. When you smile, you exude self-assurance, professionalism and confidence. These are all generally qualities that employers are looking for in an employee. Smiling can also make you appear more outgoing and trustworthy, which both are also important qualities.
Having experience, special training and education are important, but employers also want employees that they and their other team members can work with easily. Your smile can put an employer at ease that you're the right fit. The next time you are heading out for an interview, don't forget to take your smile with you.
Improving Your Smile
If you're unable to experience these benefits of smiling due to misaligned teeth, an overbite or some other dental issue, there is a solution. Invisalign is a dental treatment that operates similar to braces in that it helps align and correct your bite. However, it does not come with the traditional metal components of braces, offering a more comfortable and discrete look.
If you're an adult that doesn't want to have the appearance of braces in your mouth, this method might be right for you. As the name suggest, Invisalign is a nearly invisible method of teeth alignment. Unfortunately, this dental treatment isn't meant for everyone, so you will need to speak with a dental professional to see if it's right for you.
Don't let your oral concerns keep you from smiling. If you have a concern that is bothering you, don't hesitate to speak with a dentist about Invisalign so that you can start smiling again.
