Dealing with "Bad Teeth": Advice

I have always envied those around me who seem to always have perfect smiles without even trying, because I feel like I was born with "bad teeth." While my teeth are in great shape now, it is only because I take great care to visit the dentist every six months for a check-up and cleaning and maintain good oral hygiene habits at home. While I used to get a lot of cavities, even though I thought I was doing "everything right" to keep them away, I am proud to say that I have been cavity-free for a couple of years now! I put a lot of research into what daily habits can wreak havoc on my teeth, and I thought it would be a shame not to share what has helped me with others who need the advice. I plan to post many oral health tips on my new blog!

3 Reasons Why Sedation Dentistry Is Right for You

Dentist Blog

Some people are afraid of seeing a dentist because they are frightened that the procedure will be painful. Others may reschedule their monthly oral check-ups until they experience serious oral problems. However, with the various strides taken in the dentistry industry, a dentist appointment has become similar to any other medical check-up. The inception of sedation dentistry has made oral treatment painless and effective. The levels of sedation are dependent on each oral procedure. For instance, the doctor may consider oral sedation for minor procedures such as root canals and fillings, or general anesthesia for long surgeries. This blog shall depict three reasons why sedation dentistry is right for you.

Helps with Anxiety

Most people are usually anxious during an oral procedure. Seeing the dentist grab a large needle and poke it in one's mouth can make someone nervous and uncomfortable. Furthermore, some people become aggressive, making it hard for the dentist to operate. However, sedation dentistry eliminates people's anxiety. Once you inhale the laughing gas, it makes you sleep and unaware of your surroundings. Additionally, it makes your body calm and collective, thus allowing the dentist to conduct the oral procedure without interruptions. Moreover, the doctor may be less prone to make mistakes since they will not be distracted by your fidgeting.

Procedure Is Pain-Free

Sedation dentistry was mainly introduced to give patients a pain-free experience. The primary shortcoming of previous dental procedures is that it was painful once the drug left the patient's system. In other circumstances, the pain reliever injected before a dental procedure would become ineffective during the surgery, giving someone an agonizing experience. As such, sedation dentistry was introduced to ensure patients do not feel pain during and after the procedure. The sedation prevents one's brain cells from registering any pain stimuli, making it pain-free. Sedation dentistry has made people's visits to the dentist less frightening.

Gives You Several Options

There are many types of sedation, and one can choose their preferred choice. Apart from the procedure to be conducted, the doctor also considers the patient's fears and worries. Furthermore, if you are undergoing minor surgery, you can select your preferred option based on the doctor's guidance. For example, laughing gas aids in reducing anxiety and pain but subsidizes quickly in the body. In contrast, IV sedation allows you to be conscious, but you will not know what is happening. Thus, with sedation dentistry, you can choose the type of sedation that makes you comfortable based on your procedure.
